[FEATURING] FinTech Alliance.ph lauds satellite broadband to bolster digital financial inclusion
Being a longtime partner of the government in providing far-reaching, innovative and more inclusive financial services in the country, FinTech Alliance.ph reiterated its support to Executive Order 127 signed by President Rodrigo Duterte: “Expanding the Provision of Internet Services through Inclusive Access to Satellite Services.”
The implications of EO 127 to the country’s satellite broadband market and digital financial inclusion initiatives were discussed in a webinar titled “Satellite Broadband Technology and Digital Financial Inclusion” organized by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) led by Gov. Benjamin E. Diokno in partnership with The Asia Foundation (TAF) last June 29. Representing FinTech Alliance.ph is its chairman Lito Villanueva.
Lito Villanueva, chairman of Fintech Alliance.ph expresses the organization’s support to the BSP’s promotion of satellite broadband and financial inclusion.
“Fintech Alliance PH Inc. is committed to building a digitally empowered Philippines. Together with the fintech and digital industry, we support initiatives to provide reliable, scalable, and cost efficient connectivity to geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas,” said Fintech Alliance Chairman and RCBC executive vice president and chief innovation and inclusion officer Villanueva.
The implementation of EO 127 as a policy reform was endorsed by the BSP-chaired Financial Inclusion Steering Committee (FISC) which recognizes satellite technology as a readily deployable broadband infrastructure in specific underserved areas.
With such facility, the reform seeks to enhance internet connectivity in rural areas which will then allow the opening of more access points such as ATMs and other fintech services.
“We thank the BSP, DICT, NTC and The Asia Foundation for enabling wider data access through satellite broadband via EO 127. This reform is a big leap forward to help us realize the digital Philippines. We are definitely on track to fulfilling the BSP’s two-year twin goals on digital payments transformation,” Villanueva added.
FinTech Alliance.ph has always supported the advocacy and promotion of financial inclusion in the country by being the industry’s partner towards digital transformation and financial education.
